Ask before you celebrate the rate
Some cheap stays in China cannot check in a foreign passport.
Chinese hotels register guests. A stay that is legal for a domestic traveler can still be forbidden from registering a foreign passport. The moment you find out is at the desk, with your bag on the floor.
Book a place that states it accepts foreign guests. Chain hotels in city centers usually can. A vague short-stay flat is the listing to treat as a no until the host says yes in writing.
